Mrs Susan Gittins

Sue Gittins is a member of the team at Socrates which provides assessment and intervention for young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions and other neuro-developmental disabilities. She has a background in Social Work and also provides assessment and intervention of mental health difficulties and challenging behaviours. Mrs Gittins has a special interest in assessing and working with females on the Autism Spectrum.

Previously, Mrs Gittins worked in mental health services within the NHS for over 7 years. This involved comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Conditions as well as post diagnostic support for individuals, families and carers. The role also included providing teaching and consultation to other professionals and agencies, extending beyond pervasive childhood difficulties to include assessing mental health needs and risk to self and others. This involved providing assessment, formulation and intervention to children and families in relation to a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties including low mood, anxiety disorders, self-harm, attachment difficulties, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder.

Mrs Gittins has also worked for a number of years within the residential care setting, primarily based in a unit for children age 5-16 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and Challenging Behaviours. The unit cared for children with significant Attachment Difficulties who had experienced trauma in their early lives and children with significant Learning Disabilities and Neuro-Developmental Disorders.
