Dr Lisa Winter

Associate Consultant Clinical Psychologist
BSc (Hons) DClinPsy CPsychol AFBPsS

Dr Winter is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. She is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and is registered as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and both Graduate and Fellowship member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). She is also a Member of the Division of Clinical Psychology and the Leadership and Management Faculty of the BPS.

Dr Winter qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2001 and then joined the NHS working with adults with a range of mental health and psychological difficulties of varying severity and complexity as well as those with neurological problems. In 2008 she became Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead over psychological services for working age adults across four community mental health teams, assertive outreach, early intervention in psychosis and acute mental health services.

Since completing her core training as a Clinical Psychologist, Dr Winter has undertaken regular training and supervision in order to continue to remain up-to-date and to further broaden and improve her knowledge, skills and abilities. She is qualified to deliver a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) and 5-session Cognitive Analytic Therapy, although she tends to prefer to work in an integrative and individually tailored way, depending on what the client needs and prefers. But the most important thing her training and years of experience have taught her is that the person comes first: the unique needs, concerns and strengths each person brings into the work (be it an assessment, therapy, supervision, consultancy or training) is what is key to building the kind of working relationship that fits and that can optimise the ultimate outcome of any undertaking.

As well as having extensive experience working with clients, their families and carers offering psychological assessment, formulation and therapy; Dr Winter has provided consultancy; clinical, professional and line management supervision; and has delivered training to qualified staff and students from a range of professions. As a Placement Supervisor and Honorary Lecturer for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course at the University of Sheffield, Dr Winter has also provided regular placements for and delivered teaching to many Trainee Clinical Psychologists over the years.

In 2005, Dr Winter began spreading her time across the NHS and the independent sector where she has provided psychological assessment, treatment, consultancy and has undertaken numerous formal medico-legal assessments and reports for court in both personal injury and medical negligence cases.
