Dr Alison Harrison

Dr. Alison Harrison is an HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist, who has many years of experience of working with children, young people and their families who present with a wide range of mental health problems. Dr. Harrison’s experience has largely been within community CAMHS and in-patient settings, looked-after children Local Authority Services, and most recently as Clinical Lead for a local Multi-Dimensional Treatment Foster Care Team.

Assessment and Therapy

Dr. Harrison undertakes psychological assessment and intervention with children, their families and carers, presenting with a range of difficulties, for example depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm, attachment difficulties and conduct problems. She draws on various psychological theories to help clients make sense of their psychological difficulties and implements interventions based on, for example, cognitive-behavioural, attachment, cognitive-analytic or social learning theory depending on the needs of the young person and their family.

Dr. Harrison has been trained in the Attachment Style Interview (both adult and adolescent versions) and the ‘In My Shoes’ Interview. She has also trained in the ‘Parent-Child Game’ and Webster-Stratton approaches. In addition, she holds the Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner Diploma.

Legal Work

Dr. Harrison provides reports to the Court in care proceedings and pre-proceedings cases. She is able to assess both children and their parents and to advise on issues such as diagnosis, the impact of psychological symptoms on parenting capacity, children’s attachment, and recommended therapeutic interventions for both parents and children.
