Assessment and Therapy

Dr Rachel Varley is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). She provides psychological assessment and interventions for adults.  She has experience of working with adults who are experiencing mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self-harm and suicidal ideation as well as other chronic difficulties resulting in ongoing problems in relationships and daily life.  Dr Varley has worked extensively with clients who have experienced some form of trauma either as children or adults. Dr Varley uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) as her main therapeutic approaches.

Additionally, Dr Varley is the clinical lead for the Adult Autism Assessment and Intervention service at Socrates and has experience in providing diagnostic assessments and interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Legal Work

Dr Varley undertakes adult assessments as part of expert witness work in court proceedings and has provided reports for care proceedings, personal injury claims and criminal cases where further understanding has been needed in relation to a client’s learning ability, diagnosis of autism or history of trauma.

Training and Consultation

Dr Varley currently provides training and consultation (in relation to learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Conditions) to a number of services on a regular basis. This includes providing psychological input to individual clients and staff teams as required.
