Assessment and Therapy

Mrs Ailsa Smith has considerable experience working in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist with children and their families. She undertakes psychological assessment (clinical and neuropsychological) and intervention with children and their families presenting with a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. She adopts an integrative approach and draws on psychological models and theories such as systemic, behavioural, cognitive, attachment, and solution focused approaches. She has a specialist interest in children on the Autistic Spectrum and other Neurodevelopmental disorders, including children with moderate, severe and profound learning disability. She is trained and experienced in the use of ADOS and running EarlyBird and Cygnet intervention programmes.

She is trained and experienced in the delivery of Parent Child Game and Incredible Years as well as individual approaches to the management of difficult behaviour.

Ms Smith is a member of the team at Socrates which provide assessment and intervention for young people with Autistic Spectrum and related conditions.

Trauma

Mrs Smith undertakes assessment and therapy for individuals following trauma, (e.g. road traffic accidents, physical assault, accidents at work/school, and witnessing distressing incidents). This has included work focussing on clients’ return to school/work/ work related activity. Ailsa draws from a range of therapeutic models, including CBT, systemic and EMDR. She is a qualified EMDR Therapist.
