Assessment and Therapy                            

Dr Rachel McCormick has experience of working with both adults and children presenting with emotional and behavioural difficulties e.g. self-harm, low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties and complex mental health problems.  Therapeutically Dr McCormick offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systemic therapy and attachment based work as well as other models. Dr McCormick’s previous experience includes being clinical lead within a provision of services to looked after and adopted children, and providing the psychological input to a multi-disciplinary service for adults and young people presenting with early onset psychosis.                 

Legal work

Dr McCormick undertakes joint instructions within family proceedings, both in care cases and private proceedings. Dr McCormick has obtained the Expert Witness Certificate from Cardiff University in 2008 and is experienced in assessing both adults and children covering a range of issues. Dr McCormick has a particular expertise in the assessment of vulnerable young parents, sibling relationships, assessing children in relation to placement options (e.g. adoption, foster care), separation issues and in disrupted adoption placements. She specialises in assessment of complex large family groups.  Dr McCormick has over a decade of experience in this area, has given evidence in court on numerous occasions and provides, on average, 30 assessment reports per year.

Training and consultation

Dr McCormick has many years of experience of offering training and consultation to Local Authorities and other organisations on a range of psychological issues (e.g. working with children with attachment difficulties, working with vulnerable young people and mental health).
